Materials & printing
Every nyArt print is made to order by a professional fine art print lab, on the papers and canvas galleries use. Here is exactly what you get - nothing more is claimed than the materials deliver.
In depth: Print on paper · Print on canvas · Acrylic panel
Fine art paper: museum-grade etching paper
- Museum-grade 310 gsm etching paper - Hahnemühle German Etching (from the German paper mill founded in 1584) or an equivalent.
- Acid-free and archival (German Etching: 100% alpha-cellulose, lignin-free, ISO 9706 for museum-grade age resistance).
- A warm white, velvety matte surface with a soft etched texture - especially kind to watercolours and paintings.
Giclée printing
- Paper prints are giclées: high-resolution prints made with archival pigment inks, for smooth gradients, deep colour and prints that won't fade when displayed indoors, away from direct sunlight.
- Printed edge to edge, with no white border. Want a border? That's what a mat is for.
- Paper prints ship unframed: small sizes (up to about 8 × 11 in) flat, larger sizes rolled in a sturdy tube. Let a rolled print rest flat for a day before framing.
Canvas
- 400 gsm artist-grade cotton canvas with a fine woven texture and a matte finish.
- Printed with durable latex inks, rated for up to 200 years of display permanence indoors.
- Rolled canvas is printed edge to edge with no border and ships rolled, without a frame - ready to frame. It can't be stretched over bars (there's no extra canvas to wrap); for that, choose Stretched.
- Stretched canvas is pulled over 38 mm (1.5 in) kiln-dried, knotless pine stretcher bars with a curved profile that keeps the canvas off the wood. The image's edges are mirrored around the sides, so none of the picture is lost to the wrap.
- Framed canvas sets the stretched canvas in a wooden floater frame: a slim 12 mm face and a 5 mm gap all round, so the canvas appears to float. 53 mm deep, in black, white, natural, brown, gold or silver.
Acrylic panels
- Offered on selected artworks: your print is face-mounted behind a 10 mm crystal-clear acrylic panel - thicker than most acrylic prints use - with diamond-polished edges and a high-gloss face that deepens colour.
- Shatter-, scratch- and water-resistant, and fade-resistant for 100+ years indoors.
- An invisible floating subframe on the back holds the panel off the wall and carries its own hanging system - it arrives ready to hang.
Hanging
Stretched and framed canvases are ready to hang: rest the top stretcher bar on a single nail or screw in the wall - no hooks or wire needed, and none are attached. For large pieces, two screws a little apart keep the canvas level. Paper prints ship unframed, ready for the frame of your choice.
Caring for your print
- Hang it out of direct sunlight, away from heaters, radiators and damp.
- Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Never use water or cleaning products.
- Frame paper prints behind glass or acrylic, and handle them by the edges with clean, dry hands.
